Mount Pleasant estate to have 6,000 HDB flats, up from 5,000 previously announced
The Mount Pleasant estate remains on the spot of the Old Police Academy (OPA), near to the Thomson Flyover off the Pan Island Expressway. The OPA was run as the training institute for the Singapore Police Force (SPF) up until 2005.
Four Build-to-Order (BTO) ventures are planned for the upcoming Mount Pleasant estate, that are going to generate approximately 6,000 brand-new apartments upon finish. This is 1,000 more than the 5,000 units formerly announced for the 33ha site, HDB states in a Sept 2 announcement.
Six buildings, which HDB claims were “identified as the most significant depictions of cops heritage”, have been preserved and will definitely be integrated right into the brand-new estate. Four blocks are going to be repurposed for different uses such as a neighbourhood police post and SPF Heritage Gallery. One block will continue to act as the Senior Law Enforcement Officer’ Mess, while another will be incorporated right into future property developments. Furthermore, the previous OPA parade square will be maintained as public space for community use.
Presented by the brand-new Mount Pleasant MRT Stop on the Thomson-East Coast Line, Mount Pleasant will be a car-lite estate and include Transit Priority Corridors with dedicated bus lanes, bigger foot ways and cycling routes. New roadways, consisting of a major highway named “Old Police Academy Roadway”, will even be created to boost availability. There will also be a protected pedestrian thoroughfare that connects the different precincts in Mount Pleasant, HDB shares.

According to HDB, the raised supply adheres to “more detailed planning investigations” and are going to assist to fulfill strong real estate necessity.
The first BTO project in the Mount Pleasant estate will be started as section of the October 2025 BTO exercise. Called Mount Pleasant Crest, it will provide around 1,350 units of two-room flexi to four-room flats. There are going to even be 270 units of public rental condos.
Mount Pleasant’s distance to Toa Payoh will also factor right into need and prices. “The project may be a Prime BTO as resale flat rates in Toa Payoh are quite high and the mature estate has among the highest numbers of million-dollar resale flats,” Lee adds. Prime apartments are subject to tighter guidelines, such as a 10-year minimum occupation period and an aid clawback.
Lee Sze Teck, leading supervisor of data analytics at Hiuttons Asia, thinks the Mount Pleasant Crest project that will be launched for sale in October will draw solid interest, due to its area close to Mount Pleasant MRT Terminal and schools like CHIJ Primary Toa Payoh and Singapore Chinese Girls’ School.
HDB claims the “white flat” layout will be offered at Mount Pleasant Crest. Flat buyers can choose the open-concept layout, that provides an adjoining living and bedroom area without separation walls, when they are called to reserve a flat.
Eugene Lim, key director at ERA Singapore, notes that the white flat design at Mount Pleasant Crest might appeal to younger Singaporeans and homeowners intending to do extensive renovations. “A white flat typology will certainly provide the choice to customise their layout to accommodate their housing needs, allowing for adaptability over the much longer term,” he claims.
This will be the 2nd BTO project to present the white flat layout, after the Crawford Heights BTO project, that released last October. According to HDB, around four in 10 flat customers selected the design at that project.
